In order to answer whether art is necessary we need to understand the true value of the Arts.
Art goes beyond learning how to draw, sing or play a musical instrument. “In order to correctly define it, we need to first cease to think of it as a means to pleasure and to consider it as a human condition” – Leo Tolstoy
Art is the expression of ones imagination and emotions. Every work of art causes an emotion in the viewer, a connection with the work or with the artist himself.
Art in its simplest form is a vehicle of expression or communication like any other. Now, is communication necessary?
Getting involved in the arts not only broadens our perspective and helps to promote social tolerance but it can also contribute to some academic advantages as well.
Art remind us that the limits of our language do not define the limits of our thinking. It demonstrates that problems can have more than one solution and questions can have more than one answer.
Here is one of my favourite quote that illustrate my point: “The making of an artist is more than the training of hands; it’s the training of the eye, the ear and the listening heart” – William Gough
